Prospective Graduate Students

Bootcamp

Students will participate in an IQ Biology “bootcamp”, a series of short scientific experiences and seminars intended to prepare them for an interdisciplinary doctoral program. During bootcamp, students will develop foundational skills and knowledge for interdisciplinary research, learn to work as a cohesive team with other peers and faculty, and improve their scientific communication skills.

Lab Rotations

All IQ Biology students participate in three, 8‐week research rotations during their first year. Students must choose three different labs in at least two different departments/disciplines to gain laboratory, experimental, and computational skills. These rotations should be an interesting opportunity to learn new techniques and introduce you to ideas outside of your primary discipline.

Gap-Filling Courses

In your first year, you will also take up to two courses from already existing course offerings to balance your background with your desired research activities. These “gap‐filling” courses give you an opportunity to broaden your capabilities and explore areas of quantitative biology that are new to you.

Student Symposium

This symposium is a biennial event organized by students of the IQ Biology PhD Certificate to showcase the interdisciplinary work stemming from the program as well as from across campus. We will exhibit cutting edge science from a variety of areas including aging, disease, scientific journalism, ecology, and evolution.
