Emma āScoutā Wood (she/they) is a second-year graduate student and the Lead TA in the department of Religious Studies.
She earned a BA in English Literature and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Central Florida in 2023. In undergrad, Emma also completed a minor in Religion & Cultural Studies, a certificate in Interfaith Dialogue, an honors undergraduate thesis entitled āWild Wild Country: Netflix, Orientalism, and the Guru,ā and graduated with honors. Since her first year at CU, Emma has served as co-editor of the departmentās graduate journal, NEXT.
Their research interests focus on presentations of the Middle Ages in contemporary US religion and culture, particularly regarding the mysticism of Christian women like Julian of Norwich. In future scholarship, Emma aspires to employ a lived religion methodology within ethnographic and textual analyses of representations of gendered, transnational, and/or contemporary devotion to medieval mystics. Passionate about education and expression, Emma is pursuing a Certificate in College Teaching and works as a Teaching and Learning Assistant for CU's Center for Teaching & Learning developing pedagogical resources. In her free time, she enjoys basking (in moments and in sunshine), volunteering at the public library, sitting in wide open spaces, and collecting miniature figurines of houses.Ģż
