Leave / Sabbaticals
Research faculty planning a leave of absence or sabbatical that is 90 days or more must contact their Grant or ContractÌýOfficer.

Generally, under uniform guidance awards, Sponsor prior approval is required when there is a reduction in personnel effort by the approved project director or principle investigator (PI) for:
- A disengagement from the project for more than three months
- A 25% reduction in time devoted to the project

Before a leave starts, the PI must submit to the Grant or Contract Officer a brief statement addressing:
- Involvement and effort on each active research award
- How effort will be covered during the leave
- Changes to the budget
- Changes to project scope

Sponsor restrictions regarding dedication of effort can be found in the FOA or the award document.

The PI is responsible for any reporting requirements due during their leave. Contact OCG Reports for a list of reports due.Ìý

- Recipients are required to report deviations from budget or project scope in accordance with this section (b).
- Recipients must request prior approvals from Federal awarding agencies when there is disengagement from the project for more than three months, or a 25% reduction in time devoted to the project, by the approved project director or principal investigator. (c)(3)
