In response to public requests, 91��ý experts will discuss range of topics in Arab-Israeli conflict at Wednesday forum, which is open to the community.

A weekend cease-fire extension and the continuing release of hostages have raised some hopes, but the devastating war in the Middle East has also raised many questions.

Many members of the University of Colorado Boulder campus community have asked for expert insight into the conflict and its centuries-long history. In response, the Program in Jewish Studies will host “Explaining Conflict and War in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank: Community Discussions with CU Faculty Members” from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in UMC 285-289.

The event, which is open to the public, is being organized by the Program in Jewish Studies and co-sponsored by the Center for Humanities and the Arts, the Department of English, the Department of History and the International Affairs Program.

It will follow an informal format and allow individuals and smaller groups of participants to discuss a specific sub-topic, ranging from antisemitism to the long history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, with faculty experts, including:

Janet J. Jacobs, professor of distinction in women and gender studies
Zach Levey, Israel Institute visiting professor and visiting professor of international affairs
Karim Mattar, associate professor of English
Thomas Pegelow Kaplan, Louis P. Singer Endowed Chair in Jewish History and interim director of the Program in Jewish Studies
Eyal Rivlin, teaching associate professor of Jewish studies
Rebecca Wartell, teaching associate professor of Jewish Studies

As we enter the 2022-2023 academic year, we are pleased to announce a variety of new developments in the Program in Jewish Studies at 91��ý.

We are very excited to welcome two new members to Jewish Studies, Thomas Pegelow Kaplan, the new Louis P. Singer Endowed Chair in Jewish History, and Angela Watts, our new Manager of Finance and Business Operations.

Gregg Drinkwater has been named one of the inaugural recipients of the Association for Jewish Studies’s new Contingent Faculty and Independent Scholar Research Grants, which will support his project "Prelude to Pinkwashing: Homonationalism, Diaspora, and the Gay Jewish Embrace of Israel.” Prof. Drinkwater has also been appointed Associate Academic Director of the Post-Holocaust American Judaism Collections.

The Nonbinary Hebrew Project, co-created by Eyal Rivlin, is increasingly being integrated into university curricula across the U.S., as well as language-learning technology platforms, including Language Drops. Read about the Gender Inclusive Hebrew Language Conference, co-organized by Prof. Rivlin this past spring.

Maggie Rosenau is the new Project Manager for Jews of Color: Histories and Futures.

Rebecca Wartell has been selected to be part of a cohort of faculty at the CU Art Museum focused on developing new modes of object-based teaching and experiential learning.

Beverly Weber has been appointed Chair of Germanic & Slavic Languages & Literatures.

As we enter the 2018-2019 academic year, we are pleased to announce a variety of new developments in the Program in Jewish Studies at 91��ý.

We welcome two new faculty members to Jewish Studies, Rebecca Wartell, Instructor in Jewish Studies, and Hilary Kalisman, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies and the Endowed Professor of Israel/Palestine Studies in Jewish Studies.
Applications are now open for our brand new Graduate Certificate in Jewish Studies.
This year's Community Talks Series, Yiddishkvell: An Appreciation of All Things Yiddish, will feature a free Yiddish concert and talks with renowned Yiddish scholars.
