As we enter the 2018-2019 academic year, we are pleased to announce a variety of new developments in the Program in Jewish Studies at 91��ý.

We welcome two new faculty members to Jewish Studies, Rebecca Wartell, Instructor in Jewish Studies, and Hilary Kalisman, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies and the Endowed Professor of Israel/Palestine Studies in Jewish Studies.
Applications are now open for our brand new Graduate Certificate in Jewish Studies.
This year's Community Talks Series, Yiddishkvell: An Appreciation of All Things Yiddish, will feature a free Yiddish concert and talks with renowned Yiddish scholars.

The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts has selected alumni Judd Schiffman as a 2017 Emerging Artist. Schiffman graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2015 with his MFA in Ceraminics and a Graduate Endorsement from Jewish Studies. He is now an adjunct professor of ceramics and department technician at Providence College in Rhode Island. Schiffman remakes personal mementos and family heirlooms into sculpture, provoking questions about identity, physical objects and the experiences that comprise an individual life.

Chelsea Wilson Miller, (B.A., International Affairs, and Jewish Studies Valedictorian and Minor, 2014) received a fellowship award from the CUNY School of Law's Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice, which is a fellowship that aims to equip law students with international experience and expertise to become leaders in the field of international law.

With this fellowship, Chelsea will be working with the United Nations to complete a three month summer internship in the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at The Hague, The Netherlands. She will depart on May 20th to begin her internship.

The ICTY is a United Nations court of law dealing with war crimes that took place during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990’s. Chelsea first became interested in post-genocide work from her courses in the Jewish Studies program at 91��ý. She studied gender-based violence in genocides and mass traumas in her coursework at CU. Equipped with a minor in Jewish Studies and a major in International Affairs, Chelsea writes that "I went on to pursue a Juris Doctor in public international law from the premier public interest law school in the United States: The City University of New York School of Law. I chose CUNY because of their Human Rights and Gender Justice Clinic, where I hope to continue learning about eradicating violence against women globally."
